Getting to know you, profile style!

eXpertLocal Profile

One of the best ways to get to know you on eXpertLocal is through your profile. Whether this is your first time setting up your profile or you feel it could do with a freshening up, putting together a profile that reflects the person you are can be a lot of fun.

Want to know how to make the most of your profile? Read on!

First things first… profile basics.

1. Privacy is assured

If you have used the Facebook login option when you registered, it will capture your first and last name. Don’t worry, this is never shared with other members on the site. It will only show your first name and initial. Using your Facebook login is safe, secure and probably the easiest way to get the party started!

2. Location

We get a location from you simply so the service presents you experiences you may want to take part in. You are also welcome to use your greater city (such as ‘Sydney’ or ‘Brisbane’) as opposed to your actual suburb. For anyone using Facebook, this will also come from the info you have entered there.

3. Photo

A profile photo really is a must so that people know who to look for when an experience is organised. You can be creative with how you present yourself, but we do find that photos that feature your face and the person you are attract far more positive responses and bookings than stock photos, cartoons or other kinds of photos.

4. The meat and Potatoes: The Bio

Including info about the kind of person you are and what you like to do is the name of the game in the bio section. Feel free to share some information about the kinds of people you like to meet, too! If you are struggling to write your bio, don’t worry, we have a few ideas for you.

Let’s make this fun and base it on what a Labrador would write if he was joining eXpertLocal!

Start with a cheery greeting!

“Hi, my name’s Gibson and I live in Sydney’s Eastern suburbs.”

Tell us a little bit about yourself

I am 4 and a half years old and work as the Morale Officer for a small marketing agency. My job involves meeting and greeting clients, reminding my workmates to take lunch and not work too hard, and introducing fun new activities to the office.

Share what you like to do

When I’m not working, I love surfing, going for long walks, playing Frisbee in the park, exploring new places, going to cafes, meeting up with like minded people for fun and the great outdoors.

Give an idea of your interests

I love food, love singing along to bands like ‘Queens of the Stone Age’ and keep fit with running and swimming. I’m also up for trying most things and meeting new people!

What sorts of people interest you?

I like outgoing people who are kind, warm and like to have fun. I’m a great friend to anyone who wants to train in fitness or sports, I’m happy to tag along to group events. I adore going to parties and gigs. If you want a happy go lucky new friend to try new adventures with, I am the guy for you!

You can even use these questions as a guide for your own profile. This is just an example of the kinds of info you can include.

We’ve left the bio box open so you can add as little or as much as you want. Just remember that this will often be your first impression with other eXpertLocal members, so having some information really does help build trust.

5. Profile URL

Time to get flashy! Secure your custom profile URL now and send it out to all of your friends to admire. It also helps to build an identity.

FREE experiences on eXpertLocal now available!

In addition to paid experiences and tours on eXpertLocal, we’ve broadened our horizons into including free things to do. That’s right- you can now add and participate in experiences that are completely free!

Here’s how it works:

For Hosts

Whether you’re a community group looking to promote your already existing events or an individual who just wants to use experiences as a way of meeting like minded people, eXpertLocal has you covered.

What you need to do is-

If you haven’t joined eXpertLocal yet, you need to register via setting up a login and password (or use your Facebook details to login).

Once you’ve registered, simply go to the CREATE AN EXPERIENCE section.

Follow the fields. They are pretty self explanatory, but if you need extra help, check out our tips on how to write a tail kicking experience.

Once you’ve entered the details, click the SAVE & CONTINUE TO STEP 2 button at the base of the screen.

The next page you land on is where you set the price.

Create an Experience - Step 2

The very first option you will see asks you about currency, PRICE OR FREE and the transaction fee.

Simply grab the blue button with the white up and down arrows and slide the blue PRICE OR FREE to free.

Slide to set to FREE

From here, the system knows you want to hold a free experience and you can just fill in the remaining fields as normal.

Follow down the page, filling in the required fields and SAVE & CONTINUE TO STEP 3.

Step 3 is where you can add photos and videos of you experience.

Step 4 allows you to choose the date, time and duration- and where you save as a draft.

Once you’ve saved your draft and you’re happy with your experience, submit it for approval and you are on your way!

Free experiences are a great way for you to test the water on some of your experience ideas, to add things for not for profits and community organised events or simply use eXpertLocal to enjoy fun times with people who have like minded interests without involving money.

For participants:

Keep an eye out for the orange ribbon that says FREE EXPERIENCE- TRY IT NOW! with FreePP (that’s free per person) listed as the price.

Free Experience

When you pop over to the booking section, MAKE A BOOKING, follow the prompts through the date and times and select how many places you’d like. Don’t be thrown off by the word “purchase” for the tickets. That’s just our standard word for booking a ticket.

We will also be introducing a feature where you can trial experiences for the first time or on specific dates for free. This will be at the Hosts discretion, but is a great way of trying out different experiences that may become an ongoing thing you do, or for Hosts who would like to gain feedback on their experiences quickly.

Offering free experiences is part of eXpertLocal’s commitment to helping community groups and members of the eXpertLocal community to come together to meet, mingle and have some fun.

Is that all clear? Feel free to ask any clarifying questions you may have, or even make suggestions on how we can make this feature work for you!

How to…write a tail kicking experience on eXpertLocal!

So you’re keen to get the experience ball rolling on eXpertLocal but not sure how to go about it? Consider this your guide to posting an awesome, tail kicking experience on eXpertLocal every time!

Remember the newbie:
The members looking for tours on eXpertLocal may never have experienced what you are offering before, so make sure you give enough info help understand your tour idea. Make use of the “what do you need to bring” section so people aren’t unprepared, even if that means reminding them to wear appropriate footwear, bring ID or sunscreen. The best experiences have enough info to help people get the gist of what happens as well as what they need to bring along.

Have fun with it:
Let your passion and experience shine because ultimately, that will attract the curious customers and like minded enthusiasts alike. Don’t be afraid to show your love for your chosen experience and how much you enjoy it. That joy is bound to be infectious!

Pictures really help:
Human beings are very visual, so try to pick a picture that helps attract people while bridging the knowledge gap for anyone who may be new to your concept. Make sure you include a decent photo of you too on your profile page as this aids in building trust and showing a little bit of your personality (not to mention making you easier to identify when it comes time to meet!).

Be yourself:
As you’re the host, people want to get to know you, right? So use your personality to write up your experience the way that reflects what you are like. If you are funny, use humour. If you really know your stuff, it’s OK to show a bit of that knowledge off. If you are using eXpertLocal to meet new friends with similar interests, let people know. Just let you shine through!

The bottom line: The members of eXpertLocal are people just like you. No one expects you to be a comic genius or a super amazing writer. Just be you, include enough information that helps people get to know your activity, and post the kinds of things you enjoy doing.

Yes folks, it really is that simple.
